A WALK IN SAN POLO DISTRICT
Rialto was the commercial center of the Republic of Venice: still today visiting the fish market or the stalls selling fruits and vegetables is fun and interesting. We start from the present time to tell about the past, the merchants that came here from several foreign countries to sell their precious products, like fabrics and spices.
Then, the tour goes on and we reach, passing through hidden calli and campielli, San Polo campo and its ancient palaces. From here we get to the Frari campo with its imposing church, where you can admire the masterpieces by Giovanni Bellini, Titian and other rtists.
WALKING IN DORSODURO DISTRICT
Dorsoduro is on the south side of Venice. There are many possible walks you can do in this area, all including historically important places as well as more popular spots.
The tour here proposed starts from the Santa Margherita campo, one of the liveliest areas in Venice, thanks to its proximity to the University. From here we walk to the Church of San Sebastiano where Paolo Veronese painted some of his major masterpieces.
Then we go on through calli and campielli and we reach the squero (shipyard) of San Trovaso where gondolas are made. From the squero we move to the Zattere wherethe tour ends with the visit to the church of the Gesuati, frescoed by Giambattista Tiepolo.
The Venetian architecture is a unique “mix” of different syles like gothic, renaissance and baroque. Along this walk through the Dorsoduro neighbour (now center of the student’s night life) you can
discover and visit two beautiful examples of this “strange” venetian architecture: Ca Zenobio and the “Scuola Grande dei Carmini”, magnificent example of the “venetian” baroque. A return to the past deep in a particular atmosphere to relish what was the noble’s life in Venice.
Dorsoduro is a very quiet Venetian place just a few steps from everything. Here the tourists are not many and can live the city atmosphere and the typical premises, dipped in the true Venetian life.
