Palazzo Benzon
- San Marco, 3927
- Venice
Built in the XVII century by the Counts Benzon, this palace is set on the Grand Canal overlooking a superb view of the Rialto Bridge.
It is very famous for the literary circle that was once presided over by Marina Querini-Benzon and frequented by Canova, Lord Byron, Foscolo and Stendhal.
Originally based on a gothic predecessor with a single “piano nobile”, in 1897 another floor was added, but the new solution, resulting in the loss of the ancient dormer, is esthetically disadvantageous.
The whole façade is virtually without any decoration.
Some stucco works and frescoes of different quality have survived in the “piano nobile” halls.
Max. capacity: 270 people (120 people in the Main Room and 150 people to be split in the other 6 rooms)
